Māngere Lava
Available from Black Door GalleryIntroduced to New Zealand in 1891 the South American Tree Tomato underwent a Kiwi rebrand to become the Tamarillo. The now famous red variety was first bred at Māngere East in the 1920s, benefiting from Auckland’s fertile volcanic soil.
How to make a Māngere Lava cocktail
- Brandy – 2 parts
- Campari – 1 part
- Tamarillo juice
- Maple syrup – 1 part
Blend then strain a small to medium size tamarillo. Mix the brandy, Campari, tamarillo juice and maple syrup with ice and stir. Serve in a small, stemless wine glass.
Tip: vary the amount of tamarillo juice for personal taste.
